Action Against Hunger Food Drive
The 17th annual Action Against Hunger(tm) Food Drive will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2008, from noon to 4 p.m. at more than 100 locations across northern New Jersey, including most local supermarkets. Food and cash donations are needed to help stock the pantries against the looming demands of the holiday season and winter months. This community service program, sponsored by the North Jersey Media Group Foundation, helps more than 60 emergency food pantries in Bergen, Passaic, Essex and Morris counties provide sustenance to people and families in urgent need. By the group's estimate, the charities serve 40,000 people who would otherwise go hungry despite the seeming affluence of the region. Tax-deductible donations may be made online at www.ActionAgainstHunger.com or mailed to North Jersey Media Group Foundation, c/o Legal Department, -P.O. Box 75, Hackensack, NJ. Nonperishable food contributions may be donated at participating supermarkets and other drop-off locations on October 12. The most-needed items include nonperishable, nutritious foods such as canned vegetables, meats and fruits; hearty soups and stews; pasta; white and brown rice; peanut butter; enriched cereals; powdered or evaporated milk; and 100% fruit juice. Organizers request that no glass containers or outdated items be donated. Local emergency food providers include Center for Food Action, Bergen County; CUMAC/ECHO, Passaic County; MEND, Essex County; and the Interfaith Food Pantry, Morris County.
